This Town

Rotunda Gallery, Saint John Arts Centre, Saint John, NB
August 19 - October 22, 2011

I grew up in Saint John, attended university here for both my undergraduate and graduate degrees, and now work in the city. However, I noticed that others in my generation here were eager to escape: escape the fog, escape the industry, escape the small scale, for something, bigger and better.

With this in mind, I wanted to use photography to encourage a new perspective on
local landscapes and architectural elements. Some of the photographs simply capture familiar landmarks at a different angle, while others focus on bringing out the beauty in the city through the intensity of colours, or the mood of the scene.

This Town was my first exhibit, and became an open love letter to the city. After viewing the photographs in this series, I hoped that viewers would leave with a renewed appreciation for this town.
