In 2020, I began compiling a list of current mental health resources available in the Greater Saint John area. This stemmed from the frustration of many nights, combing search results in Google for appropriate treatment options for various individuals in my life, and for myself. Being from the city, and having some professional experience in mental health, I couldn't believe how hard it was for me to find anything useful. Then I thought - what about someone who doesn't have a PhD in psychology, or has colleagues working in mental health and addictions? If I was having these frustrations, then someone without those facilitators is no doubt very frustrated.
Currently, this information is compiled in a Google Sheet, with information on treatment modalities, payment options, accessibility - any information that was freely available on the web. At least with it in one place, we can quantify the gaps and also see that there is an overwhelming amount of information to navigate. Next steps? I'd like to engage with those with lived experience, and find a way to make this information more current, and easier to access in a moment of need.
